Who is Jonah Edson?
My name is Jonah Edson. I am the author of the Meaning of Home. Here you can take a look at my personal journey as an author, and what inspires me to write. I believe that everyone's story is important and so are the stories that they hold.
Author Journey
In my mind, my writing journey started in the fifth or sixth grade. I don't have some grand inspiration that inspired me to write and has since, but I was always a book worm. Best friends with the librarian, I read all the time and often above my grade level.
Me and a best friend of mine had a story we would write together, one we filled documents and notebooks with and were overall obsessed with. I think this is the first time I really got into writing. Literature and words have always made sense to me, though. I was on the spelling team, and often was good at editing things grammatically.
Moving from primary school onwards, I wrote a ton. Digging back through my documents, you could find a million different ones with a million different ideas. I was the type to read instead of pay attention in class, and open a new document and write instead of do work. It was a creative passion that I never really realized until the later years of high school.
I've always been more creative than academic, but too academic to be a creative. I love to craft and make things but I don't often seek out doing many of those things. I'm not an artist, or a painter, and I did well enough in school that I never considered myself on a non-traditional path.
Another thing I greatly enjoyed, though, was content creation. This was something that my creative passion came through easily in, whether it be actual live twitch streaming, or creating short films with my friends (we deemed ourselves the "Flem Crew," which was meant to be film spelled wrong and not very well thought out).
Truly, though, my first novel does have a great inspiration. Now, bear with me when I tell you this, but my first novel was inspired by a Minecraft server. Now, I was a part of the massive Dream SMP fandom in 2021 or whenever, and no, it was not that server that inspired my novel, but that server inspired all of us to have our own servers, and my server was called 'the Disrupted Everglade.'
My server was open to anyone to join, and they did, but the main things that happened were with me and my closest two friends. (We dubbed ourselves the Emerald Trio, a name we still call ourselves to this day. Yes, I was primarily a Philza/Technoblade viewer). These things, this "lore" on my server is what eventually grew into the book you now know.
Now, of course, my novel isn't the same as that was. However, two main components have stayed with me, and those are the components that I hold dearest in my heart. The first part is, of course, Everglade, the name we gave the server, and the name of the kingdom my novel is set in. The second is Eken. He's a character that will always stick with me, and I truly do love him. I think this is the most important part of writing a book.
Of course, my journey didn't start there. The server died and faded, and while Eken stayed close for a while, it was a couple years until he appeared on my page again.
I started writing the Meaning of Home during one of the summer NaNoWriMo. This is really about the time I learn to set achievable goals when it comes to writing, though I had to relearn this later when my schedule got super busy.
My first draft was finished in early 2023, where I started major revisions to my outline before editing it. Then, for my final draft, I started writing again, completely from scratch but with a new outline.

Vermont Roots
Born in Connecticut, I moved to Vermont at a young age. I was raised all over; from Randolph to Burlington, my family moved a lot as a kid, and even more often after my parents split.
What I Love About Vermont
How Vermont Has Shaped Me
My favorite thing about Vermont is the trees. We are the center of maple syrup creation, besides Canada, but every time I leave home I miss the woods and the streams. Also, as such a rural place, the community in Vermont is amazing.
